History of The Mintz Co.
As a Russian immigrant to Cleveland, Louis Mintz started The Mintz Company in 1934 as a means to support his family. He began by manufacturing castings and frames for canvas awnings. Never speaking a word of English, he grew his business with pride and determination working alongside a strong ethnic community.
Louis brought his sons Harry and Max into the business and taught them to work hard, be resourceful, and most importantly, to act honorably. With their ingenuity, the business soon expanded into the manufacture of canvas awnings and Venetian blinds.
During the Second World War, The Mintz Company converted to “war effort status” and became a major supplier of parachutes and mess kits to the U.S. Air Force in Europe. After the war, The Mintz Company re-established its presence in the aluminum Venetian blind market. Twenty years later, Louis’ grandson, Ron, attended Western Reserve University and became the first family member to graduate from college. In 1959 he joined the business and within a small 2,000 square foot area of the factory began to design and manufacture aluminum storm windows and doors. Soon, the demand for replacement windows took hold and became the company’s major focus. Improvement in materials and an early interest in energy-efficient design led Ron to switch from aluminum to vinyl.
In 1997 Ron Mintz sold the manufacturing portion of the business to Soft-Lite. He continued as a consultant and also developed a commercial window distribution and installation business. In 2007 his daughter took over company operations. She worked to develop the residential business as the need for energy-efficient windows became a national priority. Her efforts established The Mintz Company as a warm, friendly, reliable, and affordable choice for consumers.
In 2014, Ron Mintz’s grandson, 5th generation relative to Louis Mintz, came on board as the director of residential sales. After working on the installation crew for several years prior, he was ready to add some new ideas to the growth and development of the company. His focus on keeping standards high, developing a team that works hard to deliver exceptional products and service, and treating customers as he would his own family, drive the company’s success today.
